The day arrived with lots of rain in the morning. It was a whirlwind day, and I was on my feet working my butt off from 7 am until about 9 pm. We had to get an early start since Sara had to meet up at school at just after 9 am, and Emma and my husband had to meet up in the city to join the theater group they were walking in the parade with. Sara was walking with her class and the rest of the school, and once again, their school won the “Price for best performance in the flag parade”. They have won it before as well, and it is due to their colorful crowns, and the song they have made and sing as they are walking.
We left the school to parade down to the city (about a 20 minute walk) to join the main parade there. I left Sara with her teacher (they don’t want the grown ups to walk with them, it “covers” the kids up too much), and found my parents on the side of the road, settled into watch the parade. After this, we sprinted to the bus to get home and start preparing the rest of the food we were going to serve for lunch. Sat down an ate briefly, before having to head up to school and be in charge of the serving of food their the rest of the afternoon/evening. We had to wing it and change plans - normally we host it all outside, but due to the rain, we decided to use the gym and school kitchen instead. As usual, some people that was suppose to work didn’t show, and I ended up running back and forth between our two serving spots refilling them with cake, coffee, food as they sold out. I briefly got to watch my girls perform - every year they have a talent show at school, and the ones that grabs the three first spots after voting gets to perform at May 17th. Emma and her group of dancers came in second. And Sara’s dance group also got to perform even though they didn’t place in the top tree.
When we finally got done and had cleaned up for about an hour… we went home to serve up some more stuff for family there.
To say the least, I was BEAT by the end of the day! But, it was also a lot of fun, and most importantly, the girls had a blast. :)
